Advent Lutheran has been an integral part of South County since 1973 and has always chosen to love and serve our community. Advent’s Community Connections team is passionate about caring for those who are the most vulnerable in our neighborhood. Our outreach activities are ongoing and are constantly changing. Below are some examples of our community outreach activities. In partnership with Martha’s Kitchen, free hot meals are served every Tuesday at 5:00 P.M. in Berkland Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.
God’s Work. Our hands Sunday on September 9 is an exciting and important opportunity for Advent to come together with nearly 10,000 other ELCA congregations working in solidarity across the country to do God’s work in the world. This is a dedicated day of service for Advent Lutheran. The date for 2018 is Sunday, September 9. Click here to view a list of activities scheduled for 2018.
Specially packed lunches which are available to anyone who might come into our church office requesting food.
Advent Lutheran is collaborating with the City and Police Department of Morgan Hill along with other faith communities to provide a respite from the streets and supportive services for eight local families currently living in cars/RV’s with a goal of moving them towards more stable housing.
Short-term hotel and gas vouchers are provided to those who require a helping hand.
Each quarter of every year, the Staff and Church Council vote on a mission or ministry that is considered worthy of the congregation’s interest, prayer and financial support. The Quarterly Mission Project can have local, regional or global focus.
‘Reach Out’ is a volunteer offering of food ministry. Members of Advent donate the ‘food of the month’, which is given to the Ecumenical Community Food Pantry, located at St. Catherine’s Parish in Morgan Hill.
The Sew Seeds sewing group constructs quilts for Lutheran World Relief which are passed to those in need. Additionally, quilts are made for local ministries and also for for certain congregational uses.
