Worship Assistants

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is one of the oldest on-going committees in the history of the church. This group is responsible for the preparation of the altar and the sacraments, in accordance with the seasons of the Church Calendar Year.

Each Sunday and for any other worship service that may includes Communion, the Altar Guild prepares the bread and wine for Communion, refreshes the trays between worship services, and cleans up at the end of the second service. The preparation for Communion is done in the Sacristy, which is located behind the Sanctuary. This room is dedicated for Altar Guild functions.

The Altar Guild is also responsible for setting up for Baptisms and Confirmation.
For more information about being a part of the Altar Guild, please contact the Worship and Music chairperson at worship@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Greeters

Greeters on Sunday morning provide a warm, friendly and hospitable welcome to everyone who comes in to worship. They provide a friendly handshake and an invitation to sign the Guest Book on the Welcome Table. Advent Lutheran Church is committed to making all people who visit Advent feel welcome. We want them to know that they are a part of a church family who genuinely cares about one another. We would like our guests and members to know us as a unique community of people who want to serve the Lord and reach out to others in Christian love and care.

For more information about becoming a Greeter, please contact the Community Connections chairperson at community@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Sound and Light Team

The Sound and Light Team or S.A.L.T. provides the light and sound support for our worship services and for other special events. This is a vital ministry in our congregation!

No experience is necessary! We will train anyone who is interested to set up microphones and to run the sound and light boards. Youth in seventh grade or older and adults are needed for the Sound and Light Team.

If you are interested in this ministry, please contact the Director of Drama Ministries at drama@advent-lutheran.org or the Worship and Music chairperson at worship@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Ushers

Ushers are used at Sunday morning services to assist with worshipers by providing them with bulletins, giving leadership and directions during communion, as well as giving directions around the church property. Ushers are used in teams of three to four persons at each worship service.

This opportunity is open to anyone, teenage through adult, men or women, who can be available at least one Sunday service per month, either the 8:00 AM or the 10:45 AM service.

For more information, please contact the Worship and Music chairperson at worship@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Acolytes & Crucifers

Acolytes and Crucifers are members of the three-year Confirmation Program at Advent Lutheran Church. They wear white albs and serve as worship leaders at the Sunday and special worship services. The Acolyte’s duties include candle lighting, receiving the offering plates, assisting the Pastor with Communion and Baptism and walking in the Gospel Procession. The Crucifer carries the large brass processional cross during the festival worship services of the church. Training for these duties occurs in the fall each year when the Confirmation Program starts a new study year.

For more information about Confirmation and becoming an Acolyte or a Crucifer, please contact the Pastor at pastorw@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Lectors

A Lector is a reader of the Scriptures during the worship services at Advent Lutheran Church. Lectors read the first and second Scripture lessons at Sunday morning worship services during the year. Lectors may also read the Scripture lessons at other special services throughout the year.

If you would like more information about being a lector please contact the Director of Drama Ministries at drama@advent-lutheran.org or the Worship and Music chairperson at worship@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.

Communion Assistants

All worship services include a Communion Assistant. A Communion Assistant is assigned to serve as part of a team serving Communion to worshippers. This team consists of the Pastor, a Communion Assistant and an Acolyte. During Communion, the Communion Assistant follows the Pastor and serves the wine or grape juice.

If you would like more information about serving as a Communion Assistant, please contact the Pastor at pastorw@advent-lutheran.org or call the church office at 408-779-3551.
